On the fringe of the city, Emirates Golf Club is an oasis of green and was voted the number one course on the European PGA tour by the competitors of the Dubai Desert Classic. It is designed to be both challenging and fair, and is equally playable by leading professionals and the weekend golfer.
The Majlis: With imposing fairways and large, immaculate greens, the course will provide a formidable challenge for any golfer. The lush fairways bend into doglegs, switch direction and wind round the six lakes throughout this course, creating obstacles for nine of the holes.
The Faldo Course (ex Wadi) tempts the average golfer with its space and large greens, which are protected by fourteen lakes and daunting bunkers.
These courses are far from straightforward to negotiate, and your club selection will have to be precise, while your approach shots must be accurate to avoid the many water hazards, trees and rough. Varied wildlife
The Desert Classic is firmly established on the European Tour calendar.
Course Reviews
A truly wonderful experience to play at such a venue. A fantastic course and superb facilities. Derrick Blackmore February 2, 2006
The Faldo Course - Formerly named "The Wadi" the course was redesigned in 2005 by Nick Faldo primarily to carve out more land for local property developers. The result is a course loved by few that certainly provides a challenge. The course is now floodlit.
Over the years the Club have made efforts to make the course less punishing. Sadly there are a number of holes where newly built properties are intrusive and together with the use of water result in players having very limted areas to land their ball off the tee. There ARE some very good holes on the course - the par 5 3rd, par 4 15th and par 5 16th come to mind. But there are also several 'crazy' holes that will appeal only to the very best golfers. The final 2 holes are plain daft - a 22O yard uphill par 3 and a long challenging par 4 that necessitates a long iron over water.
