About the
"The feature hole is the 10th a par 4, 284-yard hole which requires a carry over two carefully placed ponds before playing up to the green which is overlooked from the conservatory of the 18th century Owston Hall."
The course has become a host venue from 2002-2004 to the EuroPro Tour which is televised
A Society Dream?
My review is very much a retrospective because before I retired last year (2012) I was responsible for the organising of a Company Golf day that comprised of over 50 business men who were to some extent a little "precious" We played Owston for 6 years consecutively 2005 - 2011
My society always played in late June or early July when the course was as you would expect emerging into its best condition. To that extent the conditions were Good to Very Good. The fairways were cut tight and generous the greens were running at medium and were mostly very true. In fact for a mixed handicap society group Owston Hall was difficult to fault. The layout is parkland and has two very distinctive levels. The top level is very neat and traditional, the bottom level not so attractive and very open. When you play Owston you begin on the top level, progress to the lower level, and finish the last 5 holes back on the top level. I always found the Holes on the top level more like "Golf Holes" than those on the bottom level.
Playing off 8/9 handicap during my visits to Owston I never found the course particularly difficult although if the wind blows the course can get longish. Nevertheless this layout is wholly suitable for mixed golfing abilities and I would recommend it. Best Holes 10th & 18th

It goes without saying that a Hotel on site couldn't be better for a group of 40-50 business men. The majority would always stay over after the Golf event, and it was this aspect if anything let the Owston Hall down. Although the rooms were very good and good value, the dining experience was a little indifferent and sometimes the front of desk service could be abrupt this ultimately resulted in my Company moving to another venue for 2012 which was sad as this location has the potential of being an excellent Golf and Hotel combination.
Finally; Golf Courses that boast accommodation and restaurant facilities must deliver on all levels, reception, accommodation, food, and Golf course.

I have now played a lot of courses throughout South and West Yorkshire. Any new course seems to impress you... but this one never fails to impress me! The holes are well designed and feature plenty of well planned hazards! Theres 4 par 5's that are safe to have a go at! This is the only club we keep going back to! Obviously the course is not over played and the green keeping staff keep it looking amazing! Just don't tell everyone because I dont want to ever struggle to get a tee time! Fantastic.... top class course!
