What causes a hook / slice?

The main cause is that the clubface is being opened or closed upon impact. An inside to out swing tends to cause a hook and a an outside to in swing will cause a slice.

Causes of a Hook

- bowed left wrist
- swing too flat
- inside-out path
- casting from the top
- too much legs
- ball too far forward
- early hand release

Causes of a Slice

- incomplete hand release
- collapsed left wrist
- ball too far back
- swing too upright
- outside-in path
- not enough legs
- coming over the top
