Modry Las voted 'Best Golf Course in Poland'
March 16, 2010

The Gary Player-designed Modry Las Golf Club has been named the best golf course in Poland, according to the country’s leading golf website.

Already selected as one of Europe’s top 100 courses by the UK's Golf World magazine, Modry Las claimed Poland’s top national golf award despite being officially opened only nine months ago. The West Pomeranian course clinched the top prize at the annual awards, which saw 15 Polish courses receive votes, with 18% going to Modry Las. The runner-up polled 14%.

Founder of Roman Fedorczuk said the accolade was even more remarkable since Modry Las had only been open three months by the time the awards were announced. “It’s a beautifully designed course set wonderfully into the countryside,” he noted. “Even before it was fully opened, we were getting reports that it was a spectacular golf course. A lot of people liked it but not a lot of people have played it, after all it’s a new course. It’s located in an area with two other golf courses so not everyone has played Modry Las, yet.”

Fedorczuk said Modry Las was a deserving recipient of the top award. “The first nine holes are simply spectacular with difficult greens. In my opinion, it’s definitely the best golf course in Poland.”

As well as picking up the award for the best course, Modry Las also had two entries in Poland’s top 10 list of spectacular golf holes, with its spectacular par 3 15th (pictured above), which banks onto a lake with a deep bunker protecting the front of a picturesque green, finishing runner up in the category. Furthermore, Modry Las picked up two more top five finishes in the most demanding golf course category and best kept group.

“We’re very pleased to pick up the best course category at the awards,” noted Arthur Gromadzki, chairman of Modry Las. “This is the first time Polish golf courses have been recognised in this manner, so to lead the way at such an early stage of our development is extremely encouraging. The course is getting better all the time as it matures into Gary Player’s wonderful design. We hope to defend our title this year and perhaps add a few more to the trophy cabinet as well.”
