Pros overwhelmingly play Titleist at Titleist PGA Play-Offs
The impressive counts across a variety of product categories were led by the Pro V1 and Pro V1x balls, which claimed top spot in the golf ball category. According to figures from The Professional Golfers Association, Titleist products also led the counts for drivers, fairway metals, hybrids, iron sets and wedges, as leading PGA Professionals emulated their Tour-playing colleagues in their preference fof Titleist equipment. In the golf ball category, 22 of the 24 players who competed at Antalya Golf Club’s PGA Sultan course played the Pro V1 franchise, accounting for an incredible 92% of the field. Titleist’s success continued through the bags of the club professionals, with the tour proven 910 driver range leading the count in the driver category with 58% of the field, compared to 17% for the nearest competitor. The 910D2 and 910D3 models have been played to victory at the highest level by, amongst others, Rory McIlroy and Nick Watney in 2011, and the count from the Titleist PGA Play-Offs further underlines the acceptance of Titleist drivers from within the professional ranks. The strength of the Titleist metals range was also evident in the counts for fairways and hybrids, which saw 62% of fairways and 56% of hybrids played coming from Titleist, compared to 12% and 17% respectively for the nearest competitors in these categories. The Titleist iron range also topped the count for irons sets, with the recently launched 712 series helping Titleist to secure 54% of the field, eclipsing the nearest competitor who accounted for 13%. In addition, the scoring performance of Titleist Vokey Design Wedges also accounted for 53% of the field compared to 17% for the nearest competitor, as the PGA Professionals again mirrored the choice of their Tour counterparts in making Vokey wedges their leading choice. The Titleist Pro V1x was also the choice of the eventual winner, Richard Wallis, who recorded a one shot victory to be crowned the PGA’s leading player for 2011. With his win, Wallis earns starts at three prestigious European Tour events in 2012, namely the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth and the Wales and Scottish Opens.
