Steve Webster commits to growing Wilson Staff Tour team
Speaking of his FG Tour irons, Webster said: “The distance control on the irons is amazingly consistent and I have lots of feel off the clubface for shot making.” As well as playing with the full set of FG Tour irons from 3 to pitching wedge, Webster will also have Wilson Staff imprinted on the front of his cap and carry the latest version of the famous Wilson Staff Pro Tour bag that accompanied Padraig Harrington during his three Major victories. “We are delighted to have another top quality player in Steve committing to Wilson Staff at a time when the brand’s presence on Tour is growing stronger,” said Doug Wright, Business Director for Europe at Wilson Golf.
“A number of our Tour players are now using the latest FG Tour V2 irons, but Steve – along with Paul Lawrie – has clearly seen the performance benefits of the FG Tours and we hope they will help him rise up the rankings in 2012.” Webster’s wins on the European Tour came at the Italia Open in 2005 and the inaugural Portugal Masters in 2007. He played on the winning teams in the Seve Trophy of 2002 and the 2009 Vivendi Trophy, while in the latest Race to Dubai the 36-year old performed consistently with six top 20 finishes. Webster joins a growing list of Tour players who have chosen Wilson Staff as their brand for the new season. They include three-time Major winner Harrington, 1999 Open Champion Lawrie, Englishman Anthony Wall, Dane Andreas Hartø and PGA Tour stars Kevin Streelman and Ricky Barnes, who recently committed to a new advertising campaign with Wilson Staff. Two-time Walker Cup player Stiggy Hogdson will also play Wilson Staff on the Challenge Tour in 2012.
