Titanium may be almost universal in drivers but it is relatively rare in fairway woods where designers struggle to harness the material's lightweight, distance- enhancing benefits in heads that are already lighter through being physically smaller.

One way is through the expensive process of combining a titanium face with steel body - which Tour Edge claim to have done effectively in the CB3 Tour fairways through a 'vacuum heat cured permanent bonding' process that eliminates the inefficient welding of early attempts.

The result is the thinnest fairway wood face in golf, and claims of 20-yard distance increases on Tour Edge's North American demo days.
