All is forgiven with the new Cobra Baffler Rail Fairway
June 1, 2010

Cobra Golf has unveiled the Baffler Rail Fairway, an new range of long-game performance clubs promising maximum forgiveness, power and control from the fairway.

Thirty-five years ago, Cobra launched the original Baffler utility metal, forever taking the fear out of the dreaded long approach shot with a knife-like long iron. In 2004, they introduced the Baffler hybrid, followed by the Baffler DWS, then Baffler TWS models. This year, drawing on decades of knowledge, the Cobra Baffler Rail Fairway becomes the perfect complement to the Baffler Rail Hybrid.

“Baffler hybrids have long been known for their exceptional forgiveness, control and versatility,” says Brian Zender, General Manager and Senior Vice President of Cobra-Puma Golf. “Our R&D team applied technology from our hybrid series to create the high performance Baffler Rail Fairway. This entirely new line will appeal to golfers looking for more forgiveness and control in their long approach shots – as the Baffler Rail Fairway is the highest launching, easiest to hit fairway wood we have ever produced.”

Cobra’s Baffler Rail Fairway has a sleek-looking, 17-4 steel clubhead with a thin, high-strength 465 maraging steel clubface designed to increase ball speed and distance. The elongated clubface and low-profile head result in a low, deep centre of gravity – to help launch the ball with ease – and a high MoI for maximum forgiveness. The Baffler Rail Fairway also benefits from the same innovative four-way rail sole design employed in the new Baffler Rail Hybrid, which reduces the area of the club that comes into contact with the ground, and provides more consistent ball contact and improved control. The Baffler Rail Fairway also features a premium, high-performance Fujikura Motore shaft for greater distance and control.

“We’ve optimised every key performance attribute with the new Baffler Rail Fairway,” says Tom Preece, Vice President of Research & Development for Cobra Golf. “The shallow clubface on the oversized clubhead will help get the ball easily airborne quickly. The four-way rail sole is designed to optimise contact with the turf, as the club comes into the ball. This forgiving design promotes more pure ball striking. The high-strength, maraging steel face – combined with our exclusive 9 Point Face Technology - allows us to reposition weight low and back, to improve launch characteristics and optimise ball flight, resulting in very little distance loss on off-centre hits.”

The Cobra Baffler Rail Fairway is available for men in 15.5° 3-metal, 18° 5-metal and 20° 7-metal models, with a Fujikura Motore graphite shaft (Lite-55g, R-60g or S-60g flex) and a Lamkin grip at a RRP of £159. The ladies' model comes in 18° 3-metal, 20° 5-metal 22° 7-metal configurations, with a Fujikura Baffler Rail F graphite shaft (women’s-50g flex) and Golf Pride grip, also at a RRP of £159.

The Baffler Rail Fairway wil be available across Europe from 1st June 2010. For further information on the full range of Cobra equipment visit www.cobragolf.co.uk
