ClubstoHire shortlisted for Irish Entrepreneur award
November 3, 2011

The innovative has been shortlisted for a prestigious business award in Ireland after saving travelling golfers more than €600,000 in its first 15 months of operation.

Nominations for the Irish Travel Industry Entrepreneur of the Year award were put forward by three partner organisations – Irish Travel Trade News, the Association of Foreign Airlines and the Irish Tour Operators Federation – and, from an initial list of nine, a shortlist of three has been produced, with Belfast-based included.

As’s reputation across Europe continues to grow with news that a seventh outlet is scheduled to open in Antalya in 10 days’ time, the company’s forward rentals are running at more than 20 per cent ahead of this time last year.

Starting with an outlet in Faro, in July 2010, – the brainchild of former Ryder Cup star Paul McGinley and two friends, businessmen Tony Judge and Gerry McKernan – has expanded to encompass six European golfing hubs: Alicante, Dublin, Edinburgh, Faro, Malaga and Murcia, with the burgeoning Turkish resort of Belek, serviced by the airport at Antalya, to follow shortly.

With airlines charging up to €140 per return flight to take golf clubs on a plane – only recently, AirBerlin put up its prices to €100 per return flight – hiring a set of clubs upon arrival makes sound economic sense, as well as offering the opportunity to play with the latest top-of-the-range equipment.

As well as saving consumers a significant outlay the company’s success also comes from providing golfers with a seamless booking process, top-brand equipment choices and a liberating travel experience. A broad equipment range is offered with options available from TaylorMade, Callaway, Wilson and MD Golf; all clubs are offered – left or right-handed, ladies and men’s – and hire is available from just one day to a full four weeks. For those wishing to travel extra-light, shoe hire is also available.

The Irish Travel Industry Entrepreneur of the Year award will be announced on November 25 at the Irish Travel Trade Awards at the Burlington Hotel, in Dublin.
