PowaKaddy help Formby defend English Champions crown September 13, 2011
Defending champions Formby have been crowned 2011 English Champion Club for the second-successive year in the tournament sponsored by PowaKaddy, the leading name in powered carts, as part of their continued support of the English Golf Union.
The hotly-contested event welcomed Team Champions from 32 English counties to Scarcroft Golf Club in Yorkshire, for the 36-hole scratch shootout to decide the coveted Champion Club of 2011.
Tied for first with an aggregate of 424 (2-under par) in the all scores to count, three-man event, Lancashire representatives Formby were declared champions on count-back thanks to their superior second round tally of 210 against Dartford’s 212 and Wike Ridge’s 215. Despite beginning the day in fifth place, five strokes behind Wike Ridge, Formby came powering through thanks to a classy course record-equalling 64 from James Bolton. In the process, they became just the third club to successfully defend the prestigious Champion Club Title.

“We’re delighted to support the EGU and the Champion Club event this year. As a truly unique amateur championship, it identifies the best club team in the country,” commented Simon Homer, Sales and Marketing Director of PowaKaddy. “A large percentage of PowaKaddy users are single figure handicappers, so we’re excited to be so heavily involved in one of the most important tournaments of their year. Once again we’ve witnessed some fantastic scoring, especially from the team at Formby, who have done fantastically well to retain the trophy.”
Bolton, Mark Duncalf, and Jack Shelley were rewarded with revolutionary White PK SPORT trolleys, which combine the latest in lightweight and super strength materials with powerful yet whisper quiet 200 Watt motors. Introduced earlier this year, the PK SPORT highlights PowaKaddy’s continued commitment to setting the precedent in the electric trolley market in terms quality, design and performance. Runners-up, Dartford, received the consolation of top-of-the-range Deluxe IV Cart Bags.
