Review of the Bettinardi Kuchar Model 1 putter

February 23, 2015

Chris Murphy

When you are talking about the best putter brands in the world you have to include Bettinardi on the shortlist.

Bettinardi Kuchar Model 1

About Bettinardi

Formed in 1991 by Robert J Bettinardi who was able to apply his expertise in CNC milling to making putters, Bettinardi Golf became recognised as the sole inventor of ‘One Piece Milled’ putters. Bettinardi has gone on to help claim more than 70 Tour victories – including 2 Major Championships – and now has Matt Kuchar as one of its brand ambassadors. The brand has quickly became known for its highly-engineered and extremely versatile putters milled from a single piece of metal.

Kuchar Series:

Designed with direct input from Matt Kuchar, the Model 1 blade and Model 2 Halfmoon are available in standard and armlock versions – the latter being made famous by Matt on the PGA Tour. The unique armlock technology has zero offset with 7 degrees of loft and, with the anchoring ban set to take place in 2016, this centre-shafted armlock is sure to entice more users into an effortless putting style.

What did I try out? - Kuchar Model 1 in the standard version

Style/Look

These are stunning putters there is no doubt about it, the Model 1 is a beautifully crafted, wide-body blade that features our tour proven FIT Face technology and has a pewter PVD finish. It just gives you confidence when you set up for a putt. One of the things I liked the most is how the putter sat behind the ball, it is very easy to make sure the putter is square at address due to the very clear topline.

Feel

The Model 1 has a very solid feel, it is slightly wider and heavier than your standard blade which makes it much easier to keep on a good swing path, this helps you start the ball on the line you want which is pretty key to putting. I think the thing that improved most in my putting switching to the Kuchar Model 1 was my short putting. I felt so comfortable over the short putts in a way I have not for a long time, and I holed most of them as well.

Would I use the Kuchar Model 1 again?

This putter is now in my bag and I’m not going to take it out. If you get hold of a club you feel has improved your game and you can shoot lower scores you are not going to stop using it, I’m very glad I tried it out.
