Luke Donald follows Nick Faldo trail in search of Major honours

After a rapid rise through golf's world rankings Luke Donald has been rewarded with a multi-year contract extension by Japanese golf manufacturer Mizuno. Having established his amateur credentials with Mizuno irons, Donald switched away from the brand for his first year on the US PGA Tour. Donald returned to the Mizuno irons of his amateur career in 2004 and began his rapid rise up the world rankings.

Luke Donald currently plays;
- Mizuno Grain Flow Forged MP-32 irons
- Mizuno Grain Flow Forged MP T-Series wedges
- Mizuno FLI-HI CLK 17 degree utility

Under the new contract Donald will also add the new Mizuno Bettinardi putter (first used at the 2006 US Open) to his bag.

The contract ensures that Donald's caddy will continue to carry the blue and white staff bag made famous by the Mizuno’s last great ambassador Nick Faldo. Donald will also wear the Mizuno visor he has become renowned for tipping to the galleries.

“Luke played Mizuno irons long before he turned professional, so our relationship is a natural one” said Akito Mizuno, President of Mizuno Corporation. “Luke is one of the world’s best iron players. A classic feel player who likes to control the golf ball. Mizuno is known as the manufacturer of the world’s best forged irons - so we fit very well.”

“We believe we can work with Luke to the same level of success that Mizuno enjoyed with Nick Faldo. Nick won several majors using Mizuno irons. Luke has the technique and temperament to do the same. He is at an age where he will begin to challenge for many of the major championships – and he has many years to win a number of them.”

Donald played Mizuno irons while at Northwestern University, where he was awarded the prestigious Jack Nicklaus Award for collegiate men’s player of the year as well as the Fred Haskins Award for top collegiate golfer in 1999. Since putting Mizuno’s back in his bag in 2004, Donald has climbed 122 spots in the World Golf Rankings from #134 to #11, where he sits currently. Donald’s game has continued to steadily improve, recording victories at the Omega European Masters and the Scandinavian Masters (European Tour) in 2004, and the Honda Classic (PGA Tour) in 2006. Donald was also an integral part of the victorious European Ryder Cup Team in 2004.

“Mizuno is synonymous with great equipment, and you always want to be armed with the tools that give you the best chance to succeed out on the course, so I couldn’t be happier to have my relationship with Mizuno extended” said Luke Donald. “I’ve been extremely satisfied with the performance Mizuno products deliver, and I hope to be using their equipment for a long time to come.”
