FootJoy launch all new FJ Icon shoe
September 23, 2009

Design and styling inspiration from over 100 years of cumulative experience and FootJoy's iconic heritage are combined into their latest golf shoe, the FJ ICON. Merging tradition and pioneering technological advancements, such as memory foam and a perforated alloy torque bar, the FJ ICON shoes deliver beautiful, traditional style, a comfortable fit and outstanding stability.

The category was inspired, tested and approved by the best players in the world and engineered specifically to exceed their demands, bringing togehter the very best features from all FootJoy golf shoes: finely tailored upper designs, premium materials, performance-infused outsoles and customisation that allows for a seemingly endless amount of design and size options.

The all new FJ Icon

In-Shoe Technology:

• Full leather linings - Leather linings provide superior comfort, slip resistance, and in-shoe breathability.
• Leather covered dual-density PU Fit-Bed - This Fit-Bed creates an underfoot base that more closely mimics the natural shape of the foot, which helps provide a quality fit and cushioned support.
• Memory Foam - Memory Foam is located in the tongue and around the collar, providing a custom fit to enhance comfort.
• FJ Icon Laser Last (modified toe shape, all styles except plain-toe saddles) - Modified contemporary toe character, standard fit across forefoot and instep, with a slightly narrow heel. The Laser Last is a composite of thousands of digital scans of the FootJoy Laser Fitting System.

Outsole Technology:

• EVA Midsole - EVA (ethyl vinyl acetate) midsoles provide lightweight cushioning underfoot. EVA does not take a set, so the cushioning will remain constant for the life of the shoe.
• Tri-density TPU outsole - Varying densities of TPU (thermoplastic urethane) are strategically placed throughout the outsole to produce a stable hitting platform.
• Icon Torque Bar - Made from perforated alloy, this feature is used in the shank area of the outsole to increase midfoot stability and support. The perforated treatment reduces weight and also gives the Torque Bar a contemporary look.
• Dual OptiFlex - Two-part forefoot flexibility channels, constructed of TPU (thermoplastic urethane) produce unparalleled walking comfort and flexibility.
• StingerTM III cleats by CHAMP - The Stinger golf spike offers superior traction throughout the entire golf swing. This golf spike also provides stability and support from the moment you step foot on the course. Unlike traditional spikes, its spring-flex traction makes the Stinger extra friendly to the greens.

"FJ ICON is a new, premium, high-performance category of golf shoes that exemplifies tradition and performance and is the new flagship product of the FootJoy brand," said Jack Erickson, Vice President of Golf Footwear, FootJoy. "Never before have we developed a category of shoes that integrates the very best features from our other categories until now. FJ ICON truly is the best of the best."

FJ ICON shoes will debut in four patterns and 9 styles. In addition, four patterns will also be available through the MyJoys programme which allows consumers to customise the #1 shoe in golf with thousands of colour and personalisation options, and bringing to over 2.5 million the number of possible custom combinations through MyJoys.

The stock shoes will be available in January with a suggested retail price of £200, and FJ ICON MyJoys will be available from late September with a suggested retail price of £220.

An instant hit on Tour, FJ Icon is already being worn by Rory McIlroy, Ian Poulter, Camilo Villegas, Lee Westwood, Angel Cabrera and Hunter Mahan to name but a few.
