Mubariz Ahmad wins Faldo Series Pakistan

Mubariz Ahmad won his third Faldo Series Pakistan Championship with a fourteen-shot victory at Defence Authority Country and Golf Club in Karachi. The 18-year-old was one of four Pakistani golfers to qualify for the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final in China.

Karachi local Ahmad carded rounds of 72, 73 and 77 to finish an incredible fourteen shots ahead of Boys’ Under-21 winner Muhammad Umer Khokhar. Ahmad and Khokhar qualify for the eighth Asia Grand Final which Sir Nick Faldo will host at Mission Hills Golf Club in China, March 11-13.

The pair will be joined at the World Amateur Golf Ranking event in Shenzhen by Ali Aanish Rehman, who topped the Boys’ Under-16 division, and Girls’ Under-21 winner Maryama Khan.

Established in 1996, 40 Faldo Series tournaments now take place in 30 countries worldwide with more than 7,000 golfers participating each year. Past winners include Major Champions Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng.

In September 2014, Faldo will begin taking students at a full-time residential academy for education and golf development in America. The first ever Faldo Series Academy in Casa Grande, Arizona is also home to the Faldo Series USA and marks the next significant step in the programme’s history.

The 2013/2014 Faldo Series Asia schedule features a record 19 tournaments in 15 countries, including four in mainland China, two in India and others in The Philippines, Chinese Taipei, Cambodia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore, Brunei, Japan, Pakistan, Indonesia and Thailand. The season will conclude in March 2014 when Faldo hosts the eighth Faldo Series Asia Grand Final at Mission Hills Golf Club in China.

The Faldo Series Asia is supported by The R&A, ISPS Handa and Mission Hills. It is endorsed by the Asian Tour and the Asia Pacific Golf Federation.

Boys’ Under-16: 240 – Ali Aanish Rehman (82-78-80); 246 – Mustafa Ali Ghani (81-78-87). Girls’ Under-21: 267 – Maryama Khan (90-86-91); 273 – Aania Farooq Syed (98-86-89).
