US Solheim team takes shape with Inkster as playing vice-captain
August 9, 2011

The Safeway Classic Presented by Coca-Cola is the final event for US-born players to qualify for a spot on the U.S. Solheim Cup Team.

Captain Rosie Jones will announce her team – including her two captain’s picks – following play on Sunday, Aug. 21. The top-nine players in the points’ race are locked in, but the 10th spot, currently held by U.S. veteran Christina Kim, is up-for-grabs.

In an interesting twist, assistant captain Juli Inkster will qualify for the team based on points and has agreed to tee it up in her ninth Solheim Cup, making her the first playing assistant captain in Solheim Cup history.

The biennial matches pitting the best American players against the best European players will be played at Killeen Castle in County Meath, Ireland, September 23-25.
