Davies hoping for Inkster in Solheim Cup singles
September 14, 2011

Laura Davies is the only player in Solheim Cup history to have played in every edition of the event since 1990 and will make her 12th appearance on the European team at Killeen Castle. Davies has earned a total of 23½ points for the European team, which is the second most in Cup history, only ½ point behind Annika Sorenstam.

Making her ninth Solheim Cup appearance, Juli Inkster has earned 18 points for the U.S. Solheim Cup team in her career with 6½ points coming from eight singles matches thanks to her 6-1-1 all-time singles record. Inkster owns the all-time record in Solheim Cup history for most points earned in singles competition. Her 18 points are also the most ever won by a U.S. Solheim player.

Incredibly, Davies and Inkster have never faced each other in the singles at The Solheim Cup and Davies believes it would be a perfect match.

“I’ve told Rosie she’s got to tell Juli to tee off third in the singles and I’m going to tell Big Al I want to play third and hopefully we can finally get a singles match because I think Juli has played in nine Solheims and this is my twelfth,” Davies said. “We’ve never played a singles, so hopefully. I don’t think the captains will be sucked into that one but it would be great to play Juli because she’s a great mate.”

Inkster, with 31 career titles, is the oldest competitor in Solheim Cup history at 51 years. She also surpasses Raymond Floyd as the oldest player – male or female – to represent America or Europe.

Davies is the oldest competitor from the European side aged 47 with 79 titles worldwide and the pair has a combined age of 98 years, with 110 titles between them.
