Has your golf course been washed away?

It's been a sad state of affairs for most golf courses this week as they suffer at the hands of the weather Gods. My home course Parkstone has held up remarkably well thanks to the hard work and effort of our greenkeeping team, who have gone out and swished water off the greens and shut the low-lying holes to protect them, a very sensible move. I'd love to hear how your own home courses are handling the same situation.

Given that the rain doesn't look set to go anywhere soon I've resigned myself to a winter of wearing nothing but waterproofs and with that in mind I've chosen a selection of the latest ladies jackets available. If nothing else at least we can look fashionable and feel fab in a new winter weather suit! Smile, it's only a few months until spring again!

Are these the most innovative irons ever?

TaylorMade has announced the arrival of what they are calling their biggest iron innovation to date. The RocketBladez is an iron with a remarkable new technology that promotes high launching, long, straight and quick-stopping golf shots for players of all abilities... and yes they have brought out a ladies version!

RocketBladez' key new technology is its "Speed Pocket," inspired by the distance-enhancing benefits of the already popular RocketBallz fairway woods and Rescue clubs. TaylorMade engineers incorporated the Speed Pocket into RocketBladez irons to promote faster ball speed and a higher launch angle to promote longer, high-flying, quick-stopping shots. Altogether, the RocketBladez set consists of eleven individually designed clubheads, each tailored in size, shape and features to maximise distance, control and feel like never before.

"Metalwoods have advanced tremendously since TaylorMade introduced the first one in 1979," said TM CEO Mark King. "The ball has advanced too, and even footwear and apparel have improved a great deal. But there hasn't been a significant advancement in irons since the perimeter-weighted cavityback was introduced more than 50 years ago. The RocketBallz Speed Pocket changes that - it's a once-in-a-lifetime innovation in the iron category. If your iron doesn't have a Speed Pocket, your iron is out-dated."

Incorporated into the 3- through 7-irons, the Speed Pocket is a 2mm-wide slot in the sole of the iron that flexes and rebounds at impact, increasing the speed of the face to promote faster ball speed, a higher launch angle and a higher, stronger ball flight that lands on a steep, quick-stopping descent angle.

The Speed Pocket advantage is especially effective on impacts made low on the face - TaylorMade studies indicate that 68% of iron shots by amateur golfers are mishits below the centre of the face. The Speed Pocket helps to significantly increase ball speed and distance on those low-face mishits.

Tour professionals will also benefit from the distance benefits of the Speed Pocket, as TaylorMade is also offering a RocketBladez Tour model. Unlike other distance irons, the RocketBladez Tour iron delivers consistent distance and is void of "hot spots" on the clubface, to ensure predictability and distance consistency from shot to shot.

"We created RocketBladez irons for amateurs, but when our Tour Staff pros tried it, they wanted it," said King. "We created a Tour version, and they love it. It's the first distance-oriented iron to be played on Tour. The genius of the Speed Pocket is that not only does it deliver more speed for more distance, it delivers consistent speed, so shots fly a consistent distance. That combination of speed and consistent distance is what made the eyes of our Tour pros light up."

The 3- through 7-irons boast the most sophisticated clubface TaylorMade has ever created for a Tour iron, fashioned from fast, high-strength stainless steel with improved Inverted Cone design. Consistent distance gaps throughout the set made possible by careful management of the RBZ Speed Pocket, Inverted Cone, face thickness, CG location, loft and shaft length.

The RocketBladez irons are available in a ladies version fitted with graphite shafts. A 7-iron set will cost £649 and will be available in shops just before Christmas. Visit

They say: Royal Albartross set out to create the most luxurious golf shoe ever made and achieves this goal through a marriage of classic and contemporary British design and leathers with Italian craftsmanship and American cleat technology. This unique combination creates shoes of international design status with out-of-the-world comfort and fit. There are six different style shoes in the women's range, all of which showcase Royal Albartross' impressive design touches and intricate detailing, such as high-shine eyelets and polished lace tips. The colour options range from white and black through to pink and glossy red. Every shoe is crafted using traditional hand tools and carefully preserved techniques, requiring more than 250 individual tasks, including stitching the leather, moulding and compressing the upper on to the last and attaching the cleated sole. The shoes' fan base features stylish golfers throughout the world, including a growing number of celebrities including Supermodel Jodi Kidd.

I say: Like most ladies I love shoes, yet I've never come across a pair of golf shoes that genuinely made me excited to open the box until now! The Royal Albartross shoe is like the Jimmy Choo of golf shoes, it simply oozes class and you get that wonderful smell of new leather when you open the box. Yes these shoes have an enormous price tag, but wait until you see them, you will understand why. The posh presentation box is a treat alone and inside is a beautifully handcrafted shiny shoe that looks fit for a Hollywood catwalk. As with all new leather shoes they'll fit snugly at first and need a bit of 'breaking in' but they come with a shoe horn so that you can slip your foot inside so it fits like a glove and the high quality Italian leather is wonderfully soft. I found the shoe a little heavier than the traditional modern golf shoe to walk in but very comfortable and it certainly turned heads. Just about everyone I played golf with wanted to know where I'd got such a unique shoe from. I love all the intricate details on the shoe such as the shiny ball marker that clips to the outside. Picking the style is also a lot of fun with names such as the Betsy Bellagio, Candy Rousso, Dolly Dumont, Lady Luck and Diamond Lottie! Overall you won't find a more sexy, stylish and comfortable golf shoe in the world. If I could put more extravagant present on my Christmas list this year these shoes would be it!
