Exclusive interview with Jodie Kidd / Green Lamb
by Carly Frost
September 04, 2014

If you read my ladies blog last week then you will have seen the short story announcing that Supermodel Jodie Kidd has become the new ambassador for golf lifestyle label Green Lamb. Well I was extremely fortunate to be able to put a few questions to British fashion icon this week and share her insight into the golf fashion world with you...

Q. As a leading supermodel and very good golfer it seems the perfect fit that you would collaborate with a golf fashion label like Green Lamb on their ladies clothing line. How much involvement will you have in the design ideas for new collections?

A. It is exciting to be so involved with Green Lamb. I'm not a designer and Green Lamb has a really talented design team so I add my advice on colour and styling. We will sit regularly and discuss which pieces I like and dislike. I will also bring my favourite golf pieces to the table and see how we can take inspiration from those. I have already begun to test Green Lamb garments before they go to market and I am very impressed.

Q. What, in your opinion, makes the perfect golf outfit?

A. Performance is essential for me in golf clothing. Green Lamb has some exceptional materials and fabrics that assist performance, and of course I like to coordinate my entire outfit for the course.

Q. Ladies golf has traditionally had a very staid, old image. This hasn't been helped by the quite dowdy fashion options available. Were you disappointed with the choice of clothing when you first started playing the game?

A. When I first started, yes, but now golf clothing is an extension of sports fashion and the options are amazing for women.

Q. What attracted you to the Green Lamb label?

A. I have known and worn Green Lamb for a long time. When they approached me to become Brand Ambassador I jumped at the chance. Green Lamb is a leading golf brand but a smaller company in overall sportswear however they are ambitious to grow. We are also collaborating on a great performance collection for active lifestyle, fitness/yoga, launching in Spring 2015.

Q. How can ladies golf clothing be fashionable yet still functional and comfortable for the course?

A. What I have learned the most about from Green Lamb designers is that fabric is key to the garment and performance. Green Lamb source their fabrics from the very best fabric mills in the world and the functionality is key, along with the high quality of the goods.

Q. The age of the average lady golfer in the UK is in her fifties and sixties. What design challenges does this bring?

A. All lady golfers want to look young and feel good, so we don't see that as a major obstacle.

Q. In terms of sizing, we would all love to have a catwalk figure, but in reality most lady golfers need a more generous fit. There is also a new generation of players coming through who are very petite. How can Green Lamb cater for both ends of the size spectrum?

A. Interestingly Green Lamb has launched a new fitted collection to complement their classic collection. Styling is a little racier and the fit is slimmer. So we aim to cater for all lady golfers.

Q. What's your favourite item of golf clothing in your wardrobe and why?

A.Currently my favourite is my brand new Hush Waterproof jacket from Green Lamb.

It is an amazing stretch waterproof that is completely silent, I love it. It will be available I the shops this winter.
