Deal in the sun
July 6, 2010

With Turnberry's stunning scenery and golfing heritage still fresh in the memory from last year's dramatic Open championship, the famous resort is now offering a range of 'tailor-made' golf experiences - with special deals in particular for companies keen to sample Scotland's ultimate corporate golf venue.

Now fully refurbished, upgraded and rebranded as a Luxury Collection Resort, Turnberry's charm and exceptional facilities - led by the breathtaking Ailsa Course itself - represent a unique business and entertainment platform for companies and clients seeking a friendly and competitive environment. "Our new corporate golf experiences have been designed to enable companies to capture the upswing in the economy, offering them an affordable solution for getting back on the golf course. And where better than the iconic Ailsa Course at Turnberry?" says Stewart Selbie, the resort's General Manager.

The various stylish packages start with The Ailsa Open Days, an accessible corporate golf experience for small groups that includes a round on the Ailsa - the UK's No.1 course - with Turnberry's revered bacon rolls on arrival followed by a sumptuous prize-giving dinner after golf. At £495 per 4-ball team, The Ailsa Open Days are scheduled for 29th July, 26th August and 7th October.

The Ailsa Corporate Challenge is a more premium experience combining golf on the Ailsa with a gala prize-giving dinner featuring a celebrity speaker, along with overnight accommodation in the Turnberry Golf Lodges and breakfast in the resort's signature 1906 restaurant. At £1,160 per 4-ball team, The Ailsa Corporate Challenge is available on 16th June and 8th September.

Also new for summer 2010 is The Links Unlimited package for companies wishing to create their own corporate golf events for groups of 12 or more. This again includes a round of golf on the Ailsa Course – but also unlimited play on the resort's neighbouring Kintyre Course, together with accommodation in the Lodges and breakfast in the golf club. A complimentary meeting room or private dining room is included in the package which is available from 1st April to 30th September. Prices start at £175 per person, based on twin occupancy.

Meanwhile, for those wishing to enjoy flexible privileges all year-round at Turnberry, there are a limited number of the highly attractive Ailsa Partnerships still available. This entitles Partners - as well as their colleagues and clients – up to 120 rounds on the Ailsa Course, annually, with further privileges on the Kintyre Course at weekends. Also included is complimentary room hire in the clubhouse, tournament administration for residential golf events for 16 golfers, preferential accommodation rates and special access to the Ailsa Corporate Challenges. The Ailsa Partnerships are priced at £13,200, including VAT.

Widely acknowledged as the most aesthetically beautiful of all the Open venues, with its glorious seaside setting, rugged dunes and sublime views of the Ailsa Craig and beyond, the Ailsa Course last year saw Tom Watson almost relive Turnberry's finest Open moment - the famous 'Duel in the Sun' of 1977. Consistently ranked as the UK & Ireland's top course by leading golf publications, the Ailsa enjoyed some well-publicised improvements ahead of the Open. Among them six new championship tees (including the truly spectacular one at the 10th hole) which extended the course to 7,211 yards, along with the re-routed fairway at the notorious 16th and some 21 new bunkers.

Nearby, the 18-hole Kintyre Course was designed by Donald Steel in a more inland setting with colourful gorse hedges - but still enjoying many magnificent seaside views; while the 9-hole Arran course is a charming layout of par 3s and short par 4s.

Completing the comprehensive golf facilities is The Colin Montgomerie Links Golf Academy embracing a 16-bay driving range and state-of-the-art teaching technology, including computerised digital video simulators and swing analysers, along with a range of PGA-approved tuition packages.

Meanwhile, from its famous hill-top location, the magnificent Turnberry Hotel enjoys panoramic views over the links to the Isle of Arran and the Mull of Kintyre, with the resort now offering everything from a luxury spa and swimming pool to an outdoor activity centre for archery, shooting, quad-biking and falconry.
