New medical service for golfers
September 17, 2010

A new service specifically for golfers has been announced by Sports Medicine Partners, the Physiotherapy and Medical practice, with clinics in Sutton Coldfield and Lichfield. A team of local clinicians who work on the PGA European Tour are available to assess, treat and rehabilitate golfers who have suffered an injury, or wish to return to golf after surgery. Dr Roger Hawkes who is the Chief Medical Officer of the PGA European Tour and is the European Ryder Cup team doctor at Celtic Manor in September, leads the team, which also includes Poora Singh, Registered Osteopath and Paula Deacon, Registered Physiotherapist, who work on the PGA Challenge and Seniors Tour. They are supported by Mr Mark Price, Consultant Podiatric Surgeon and Jim Thorp, Sports Masseur and Remedial Exercise Specialist.

Dr Hawkes said "we have decided to launch this service so that local golfers can benefit from our experience of dealing with a whole range of injuries that prevent people from playing, or returning to golf. We believe this is the first service of its type in the country, and with our in-house diagnostic ultrasound capability, we are uniquely placed to get patients back playing golf as quickly as possible. Also, as part of post surgical rehabilitation it is very important for patients to receive the best possible advice to ensure a safe and successful return to golf".

The team are also interested in arthritic conditions which interfere with golf, as well as shoulder, wrist, knee and back problems.
