Heritage Le Telfair voted Best Golf Resort in Mauritius
July 23, 2010

Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Spa Resort was voted the “Best Golf Resort” in Mauritius at this year’s prestigious World Travel Awards.

The Africa and Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony marked the 17th edition of the awards, which was held on the 7th July at the Sandton Convention Centre amidst the celebratory atmosphere of the World Cup in Johannesburg. More than 183,000 professionals in the tourism industry including travel agencies, tour operators and tourism organisations cast their vote from over 160 countries in over 1,000 different categories.

The five-star deluxe Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Spa Resort from the Veranda Group had stiff competition in the Mauritian category from the acclaimed Constance Belle Mare Plage Resort, Dinarobin Golf & Spa Hotel, Le Paradis Hotel & Golf Club, Le Touessrok and the One & Only Le St Geran, which all received deserved nominations.

Located in Domaine de Bel Ombre, Heritage Le Telfair is a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World with an architectural design that captures the area’s sugar plantation history. Its magnificent 18-hole golf course Golf du Château was designed by renowned architect Peter Matkovich and stretches out over 100 hectares taking in lakes, streams and tropical trees. The course is both challenging and varied, providing golfers of all abilities with an opportunity to improve their technique and know-how on a championship course (Par 72), just seconds away from the luxurious offering at the hotel.

“The golf course is a good honest course that provides a very good test for the accomplished golfer, yet is very user friendly for the higher handicapper” says Steven Shearer, General Manager of Golf du Château. “The views and general landscape are magnificent and each hole has its own characteristic but each one seems to flow naturally into the other.”

Golf du Château is certainly one of the most remarkable courses on the island, situated on a rolling hillside with panoramic views of a clear blue lagoon on one side and the hills of the Black River Gorges National Park on the other. Facilities include an additional 9-hole par 3 course, putting green, chipping green, golf carts, caddies, a driving range and golf clubhouse.
