Lilleshaw hosting Ryder Cup style competition
September 9, 2010

Lilleshall Hall Golf Club, Newport, Shropshire is holding a unique Ryder Cup Competition this month echoing the magnificent Ryder Cup championship being held this year in Newport, Wales.

The golf club's event is timed to coincide with the Ryder Cup being held in October across the border at Celtic Manor, Wales which sees the greatest players from Europe and the USA doing battle.

This is the third time that Lilleshall have held their event which runs from 9th -12th September which was immediately fully subscribed and has an impressive total of 128 players, 64 for each side. Championing the American team is well known local Newport businessman John Henshall whilst his rival European Captain is Jim Hampton of Donnington, Telford. As with the real Ryder Cup in Wales each player wears the appropriate team shirt on each day.

Opening with a championship dinner the Shropshire event proves to match the spirit of the Welsh competition. John Henshall said "the Ryder Cup is a major date in every golfer's diary and our event promises to be equally as competitive. It's like the battle of the Newports!".

Emulating the Ryder Cup competition players will compete in four ball, foursomes and singles events over 3 days concluding with a prize giving ceremony and jazz night. The event will also be raising money for local charities Compton Hospice and Hope House Childrens Hospice.

Lilleshall Club Secretary Alan Marklew added "Our Ryder Cup event is not only enjoyable but is also a great opportunity to raise some much needed funds for our local charities".
