Martin Kaymer looking to extend money lead
September 9, 2010

If Martin Kaymer and Francesco Molinari can keep the Ryder Cup pot boiling this week, Colin Montgomerie will be an extremely happy captain.

Last weekend, European team members Miguel Angel Jimenez and Molinari's elder brother Edoardo completed a one-two finish at the European Masters.

Montgomeri is now hoping U.S. PGA champion Kaymer and Francesco can maintain the winning run at this week's Dutch Open so that his team get a psychological boost ahead of the showdown with the United States in Celtic Manor from Oct. 1-3.

World number six Kaymer, whose celebrations following his breathtaking victory in the Wisconsin major included opening the day's proceedings in the NADSAQ exchange in New York, is ready to ring the bell for his captain.

"I see this week as a good way to get ready for the Ryder Cup. I feel good, rested, and ready to win again," the 25-year-old German told reporters on Wednesday at the Hilversumche course near Amsterdam.

Kaymer narrowly missed out on securing a spot in Nick Faldo's 2008 Cup squad and feels he has come a long way since then.

"I think it is just the practice I have put in over the last few years," said Kaymer. "When I first came on tour I noticed the difference between my short game, especially the putting, to the other guys. That is the biggest improvement I've made."

Two years ago Kaymer went along with Faldo's unsuccessful team to Valhalla to gain experience. Now he eagerly awaits the bell going off in Wales.

"I can't wait to see who I'm playing with on Friday morning - Lee Westwood, Luke Donald or Padraig Harrington, whoever," a confident Kaymer said.
