Top coach rewarded with national role

The Scottish Golf Union has confirmed that Neil Marr, head professional at Meldrum House Country Hotel near Aberdeen , has been appointed head coach for the SGU's national under-18s boys' squad. The announcement was made as Marr celebrated his sixth consecutive year working as a Scottish Golf Academy coach.

"It's a great honour to be given this role with such an exciting national squad," said Marr. "My work at Meldrum, and as an academy coach, is all about providing a tailored coaching programme to help individuals progress and improve. This is the same approach I'II take when working with the country's most promising golfers. It's a tremendous privilege to work with these guys and a real honour to be involved in the new-look Scotland set-up."

As well as heading up the coaching staff at the 24-acre practice facility at Meldrum House, Marr has also helped develop some of Scotland's brightest golfing prospects including the 2009 national men's and boys' champion David Law. Not surprisingly, he has also become one of Golf Monthly's Top 25 golf coaches and now joins a highly experienced team of professionals which will include Adam Hunter, head coach for the under-16s squad, and Kevin Cademy-Taylor who is the SGU's new performance development manager.

Steve Paulding, performance manager for the SGU, welcomed the trio of recent appointments: "Having undertaken an exhaustive selection process we are delighted to welcome Kevin, Adam and Neil into these new roles in what is an exciting development for Scottish golf. Each of them brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to their respective roles and ensures we will continue to enhance the support we offer to the country's best young players."

His thoughts were echoed by Andy Burgess, head of operations and development at the award-winning Meldrum House Country Hotel. "It's great to see Neil's skills recognised in this way," he noted. "His work at our practice facility is highly regarded by our members and Neil's pupils. His ability to get inside the head of a golfer and provide the kind of guidance that can deliver immediate results is second to none. He really is one of the best coaches in the country and we're extremely proud that he'll be supervising some of Scotland 's most gifted young players."
