Career high rankings for Kuchar at 10 and E. Molinari at 15
August 30, 2010

Matt Kuchar overturned a deficit which at one point was five strokes from Scotland's Martin Laird to win The Barclays Championship in New Jersey, the opening event of the FedEx Cup PlayOff series. Laird began the final round with a three-shot lead and soon extended that to five with birdies at the opening two holes at Ridgewood Country Club, only to then run up a double bogey seven on the third and bogey the fourth. Kuchar played a bogey free five birdie round of 66 and in the end the pair tied on twelve under par. Kuchar played a stunning second shot to three feet in the Play-Off and with the birdie three he claimed the title and the lead in the FedEx Cup. The win takes him to world number 10, a career best and a jump of 13 places.

Edoardo Molinari birdied the last three holes to win the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles. The 29 year old Italian was two behind Brett Rumford with three holes to play. He then two-putted the long 16th, sank a curling 30 footer at the 194 yard 17th and then hit a chip to within 18 inches of the final hole. His day became even better an hour or so later when Colin Montgomerie confirmed him as a Captain's pick after he fell less than one OWGR point short of automatic qualifucation. The win takes the elder of the Molinari brothers to world number 15, up 6, a career high for the former US Amateur Champion and winner of the 2009 Challenge Tour Rankings. (Younger brother Francesco Molinari, who has already qualified automatically for the European Ryder Cup side, is world no. 35 this week.)

This week's other winner were Hideto Tanihara at the Vana H Cup KBC Augusta on the Japan Tour, Chris Kirk at the Knoxville News Sentinel Open on the Nationwide Tour, Oscar Floren at the SWALEC Wales Challenge on the Challenge Tour, Liang Wen-Chong at the Thailand Open on the OneAsia Tour and Aaron Goldberg at the Canadian Tour Championship on the Canadian Tour.
