Match Play puts Ian Poulter up to career-high world no. 5
February 22, 2010

Ian Poulter beat compatriot Paul Casey 4&2 to win the WGC-Accenture World Match Play title Ritz-Carlton GC, Dove Mountain - Marana, Arizona, USA.

It makes the 34-year-old the first Englishman to lift any of the four World Golf Championship individual trophies and takes him up six places to a career-high fifth in the world, just ahead of Casey in sixth, up one. It also means that Englishmen now hold the 4th, 5th and 6th spots in the ranking, with Europeans occupying 8 of the top 15 places. Americans hold only 5 slots, including the top 3.

Camilo Villegas beat Sergio Garcia for third place and climbs to world number 22, up four places, with Garcia up two to 13th.
