Bookies expecting £50m of Ryder Cup bets
September 30, 2010

The Ryder Cup 2010 has all the ingredients to be the highest turnover golfing event in history according to bookmakers William Hill. "Every indicator is pointing to golf turnover being smashed. The teams are very closely matched, Monty is the European Captain and Tiger is desperate to get the US public back on side. This has sparked a betting frenzy and we are expecting an industry wide turnover of up to £50 million," said Hill's spokesman Rupert Adams.

With the eyes of the world focusing on Celtic Manor, Hills make Europe the 4/6 favourites with USA priced at 13/8. Tiger Woods is the 9/1 favourite to be top scorer in this year's competition with Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson, Graeme McDowell and Martin Kaymer all priced at 10/1.

The singles match that everyone wants, Tiger Woods vs. Rory McIlroy is a 10/1 shot with Hills.

"Over 75% of all bets taken on the Ryder Cup have been for Europe to win and we expect that trend to continue as we near tee-off on Friday am. We plan to bet on the outcome of every hole of every match for the first time and as a result turnover could be double that of the last Ryder Cup," said Hill's spokesman Rupert Adams.
