Simon Khan misses out on US Open qualifying
May 25, 2010

One day after the biggest win of his career, Simon Khan failed to qualify for the U.S. Open.

Khan, who won the BMW PGA Championship on the European Tour, was the odd man out Monday in a six-man playoff for the last five spots in a 36-hole qualifier for the U.S. Open. The other five players all made birdie on the first extra hole to advance.

James Morrison of England had an 11-under 133 at Walton Heath to lead the 11 players who qualified for the U.S. Open, to be played June 17-20 at Pebble Beach. The others were Rafa Echenique, Rhys Davies, Gary Boyd, Rafael Cabrero-Bello and Gareth Maybin.

The five who earned spots in the playoff were Mikko Ilonen, Jean-Francois Luquin, Gregory Havret, Rikard Kalberg and Pablo Martin.

Among those who failed to qualify included Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie.
