New initiative from Vale Resort
July 12, 2010

The Vale Resort in Hensol near Cardiff has launched an innovative golfing initiative offering three months' of free play to encourage as many newcomers as possible to take up the game this Summer.

The green, green golf courses of Wales have never been in more pristine condition in preparation for October's Ryder Cup and new members at the Vale Resort's award-winning golf club can play on its Lake course for free until September, if they sign up for 12 months' membership to start in October.

Unusually, there is no joining fee whatsoever either and new members will enjoy 15 months for the price of 12. The first 50 signings before July 30 th will receive two free private lessons as well as two free group lessons at the club, where golfing stars Sion Bebb, Kyron Sullivan, Paul Doherty, Matt Dearden and young talents Rhys Pugh and Delon Hau all choose to train.

Head professional and Golf Operations Manager Clive Coombs has been at the Resort for over 10 years and says: "There is currently a huge interest in golf because of the Ryder Cup and we want to play our part in giving the game maximum exposure by offering our course to as many people as possible. We're convinced once people experience our club's fantastic facilities, which are second to none, they will be hooked.

"We firmly believe in getting people involved in golf from an early age and really nurturing every fresh talent. The Vale Golf Academy illustrates our dedication to this. We offer our junior members every opportunity possible from the very best coaching down to providing personalised fitness programmes for them in the Resort's Leisure Club. We want as many people as possible to come to the Vale Resort and give it a go."

Clive leads a team of top golf professionals, all fully qualified members of the PGA with over fifty years of professional golfing experience between them . The quality of the courses means greens and tees are played year-round. The club offers the cheapest driving range in the area and a new fleet of buggies has just been introduced. A bucket of balls is available for £1, providing the perfect incentive for people to try out the club.

Members of the golf club are offered many exclusive discounts throughout the Resort, including off-peak membership of the Health and Leisure Club for £10 or full membership for just £30.

Located amid 650 acres of breathtaking Welsh countryside, the Resort's Wales National and Lake courses have hosted several PGA golf tournaments, the latest being the SWALEC Wales Challenge Tour 2009. The par 72 Lake Course is dominated by a 20-acre lake and has water coming into play on 12 of its holes. Its unique signature hole, The Island Green (12 th ), is ranked one of the UK 's top golf holes. The Wales National is one of the longest championship golf courses outside America at 7,433 yards off the championship tees. Again, water comes into play on a number of holes and the 2 nd hole is the longest par 5 in Wales .

Like golf club membership, the cost of Welsh golfing breaks has never been more competitive. Many guests make a visit to the Vale a regular date on their golfing calendars to enjoy the 'whole in one' Welsh experience. A round costs as little as £15 per person this Summer or from £25 to play 18 holes on the Wales National Course.

There is currently 10% off golf breaks booked by 13 th July, with prices starting from £77 per person for a night's luxury 4* accommodation, breakfast and 18 holes of championship golf or from £97 including 18 holes on both courses, a two course dinner in La Cucina restaurant, a night's accommodation and breakfast. All breaks incorporate full use of the Resort's facilities.

The Resort has a long-standing commitment to sport, being home to the WRU National Centre of Excellence training facilities for the Welsh rugby team and also for Cardiff Blues, Cardiff City FC and the Football Association of Wales.
