Vale Resort expands profile abroad
November 11, 2010

The Vale Resort in Hensol, near Cardiff, will be among the world's most elite golfing venues attending IAGTO (International Association of Golf Tour Operators)'s annual conference in Valencia this month.

As guests of Visit Wales, The 4* Vale Resort, which has two award-winning golf courses, will present to worldwide tour operators and travel agents, with the aim of enhancing golf business with overseas visitors.

International Golf Travel Market (IGTM) is the premier global event for golf tourism suppliers, buyers and media. This year's event is the 13 th to be held and coincides with the Welsh Assembly Government's establishment of a Wales chapter of the International Golf Tour Operators Association.

Paul Beddoe, Director of Sales and Marketing at the Resort said: "Wales' successful hosting of the Ryder Cup has undoubtedly benefitted us with a number of appointment requests being made with operators keen to discuss future business. We are conscious of ensuring we maintain this momentum and highlight all we have here to offer golfing guests."

The annual four-day event, which has become the established meeting place for golf tourism professionals from more than 65 countries across the world, is set to be the most important yet, as the industry meets to network and do business.

"IGTM is a must-attend event for everyone in the global golf tourism industry and those who visited last year, the biggest and most successful IGTM to date, will appreciate why it is so important," said event director Mark Walsh of Reed Exhibitions.

"Clearly, the wider travel market continues to face challenging conditions, but for proactive suppliers and buyers in the golf travel market where there is a more positive outlook, there is a great opportunity to stay ahead of the curve. IGTM is where it all happens for the global golf travel industry and we look forward to welcoming everyone to Valenciana, the outstanding golfing region in November."

This year's IGTM will be staged at the Feria Valencia Convention and Exhibition Centre in Valencia, on Spain's east coast. The region, whose most famous golfing son is European Tour and Ryder Cup star Sergio Garcia, is one of the finest golf destinations in Europe.

Among the special events during IGTM will be the Valencia Region Gala Dinner and the IAGTO Virgin Atlantic Awards, recognising excellence in the global golf tourism industry. There will also be an IGTM golf tournament plus a variety of networking and social events.

The Vale Resort has already recorded a 50% leap in group golf bookings in year on year sales. Golf group bookings places in 2009 for 2010 were values at just over £30,000. This year, for the first ten days of October alone, the same bookings have already exceeded over £50,000.

Head professional and Golf Operations Manager Clive Coombs has been at The Vale Resort for over 10 years. He leads a team of four top golf professionals, all fully qualified members of the PGA with over fifty years of professional golfing experience between them. The team is renowned for its friendly approach to beginners or newcomers as well as to their challenging tutorials for more competitive golfers.

The Vale's course, which recently hosted The European Challenge Tour, offers a mixture of mature wooded areas, wide and narrow fairways and vast areas of water features. This is all set within 650 acres of beautiful Welsh countryside, boasting an abundance of wildlife.

The 72 Lake Course is dominated by a 20-acre lake and has water coming into play on 12 of its holes. Its 8 th hole looks down over the largest heronry in Wales. Its unique signature hole, The Island Green (12 th ), has been ranked as one of the UK's top golf holes.

The Wales National opened in 2003 and is one of the longest champion golf courses outside America at 7,433 yards off the championship tees. Water comes into play on a number of holes and greens are also constructed to USGA standard. The Wales National's 2 nd hole is the longest par 5 in Wales.
