Avington Park golfers raise funds for Hampshire Air Ambulance
August 17, 2011

Emergency services have raised more than £500 for Hampshire Air Ambulance through an afternoon golf competition.

The 999 tournament, held at Avington Park , one of the South's leading nine-hole parkland courses, saw police, fire and ambulance teams tee off against a team from Avington Park . Glorious weather and the course in great condition ensured an enjoyable afternoon's golf.

The Avington Park team, led by club captain Bob Cotton, came out on top, scoring 271 points against the fire service's 250 and retaining the 999 trophy won last year.

The police came third on 247, closely followed by the ambulance team on 244.

Derek Barney and Terry Forgham, both keen players at Avington and past ambulance service men, have helped organise the event for the past eleven years.

They would like to thank Robert Stent, owner of Avington Park Golf Course, for generously allowing free use of the course for this event. They would also like to thank all those who took part and helped raise £510 for a charity that does such vital work.

The funds raised were later presented to the Hampshire Air Ambulance at St Mary's stadium by Derek Barney and Terry Forgham.
