July 19, 2011

Two Birmingham golf clubs are teeing up the chance to give the sport a try as part of Midlands Golf Week.

Pype Hayes, in Eachelhurst Road, is offering free coaching sessions and an on-course taster session from Monday, July 18, to Friday, July 22.

The free coaching takes place between 6pm and 7pm, while from 7.30pm onwards the taster session involves playing three holes with a golf coach in attendance.

Free junior golf lessons are available between 10am and 11am.

All equipment is provided but places must be booked by ringing Joe Kelly on 0121 351 1014

The club is also offering free membership deals to juniors and ladies.

Boldmere, in Monmouth Drive, Sutton Coldfield, is offering a free 15 minute lesson for beginners on Monday, Wednesday or Friday with three free rounds of golf for anyone who joins the club in Midlands Golf Week. Further details from Trevor Short on 0121 354 3379.

More than 70 clubs throughout the region are backing a new drive to encourage more people to take up golf with a host of events and offers.

Full details of what is on offer at each club will be found by visiting www.midlandsgolfweek.co.uk

Regional development officer Sharon Heeley said: "This is a great chance to get involved in Midlands Golf Week, which is an exciting new venture involving a host of clubs across the region in showcasing what golf has to offer.

"Anyone interested in getting involved in golf for the first time or who is interested in coming back to the sport can use the new website - www.midlandsgolfweek.co.uk - to find the event that best suits them.

"Golf is the only sport that can be competitive at all ages and by all abilities and has health benefits as well as the sporting and social enjoyment. A round of golf equates to 12,000 steps or a 45 minute workout, improves flexibility, strength and overall fitness."
