Big brands back Brabazon Challenge
April 19, 2011

Nine of the world's leading golf brands are backing The Belfry's Brabazon Challenge where, through a Stableford pairs tournament held over the next six months, club golfers can compete like a Tour pro on the iconic four-time Ryder Cup course.

For just £199, a team of two can enter the competition on The Brabazon - where the fast greens measure up to 11 on the Stimpmeter - in one of five qualifying rounds staged between May and September. For the very first time, the popular event will be supported by all nine manufacturer brands that custom-fit clubs for more than 3,500 golfers at The Belfry each year - TaylorMade, Callaway, PING, Titleist, Cleveland/Srixon, Nike, Cobra, Mizuno and Wilson Staff.

The top two teams competing in the five 18 hole two-ball better ball Stableford competitions will progress to a Grand Finals weekend over 28-30 October, along with the three teams with the next highest scores from all qualifiers. Prizes from the nine brands will be presented to players from the leading three teams on each qualifying day, with further custom-fitted clubs and golf bags on offer to the overall winners.

The five qualifying rounds will all take place on Tuesdays, including 17 May, 21 June, 12 July, 16 August and 6 September. Knock-out quarter finals will then be played on Friday 28 October, with the four winning pairs qualifying for dinner and bed & breakfast accommodation in the four-star hotel ahead of the semi finals the following day. The finalists then have a further night's accommodation before the final takes place on 30 October.

Last year, Crosland Heath Golf Club's James Skirrow and Andrew Goldstein held their nerve on the famous 18 th hole to become Brabazon Challenge champions, seeing off a spirited effort in Sunday's final from Edwin Martin of Upminster and Kevin Lye of Romford.

"The Brabazon Challenge was a great success last year and, with the support of nine different brands, we anticipate an even better event in 2011," said The Belfry's Director of Golf Gary Silcock. "The event gives regular golfers the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of their Ryder Cup heroes by competing on one of the best conditioned courses in Europe ."

Golfers who sign up to The Brabazon Challenge are also being offered a special half-price practice round on the day before qualifying events at £70 per golfer after 2pm, while preferential bedroom rates are available in the hotel on the night before qualifying at £69 per twin room.
