Legendary Wentworth win for Chris Evans
October 12, 2011

Radio Two DJ Chris Evans will be heading to South Africa 's Legend Golf & Safari Resort in July after winning a place to compete in the Investec JAG Invitational Legend.

The One Show presenter was part of the winning fourball at Wentworth's inaugural Investec JAG Invitational, just days after partnering Nick Dougherty to victory in the Alfred Dunhill Links team event.

Evans joined the one-day event at Wentworth in support of South Africa's JAG Foundation, and in partnership with Sam and Gary Hackner, and Robin Magid, from sponsors Investec, saw off a small but competitive field on a cool, grey day in London .

Evans, who by his own admission wasn't playing at his best at Wentworth, said: "It's great to be able to come out to a course like Wentworth, play golf with some great people, and help a charity like JAG at the same time."

Other famous faces taking part in the event included former England batsman Mark Butcher, England 's Twenty20 World Cup winner Michael Lumb, ex-South African fast bowler Charl Willoughby and Saracens' South African quartet of Schalk Brits, Ernst Joubert, Justin Melck and Derick Hougaard.

The JAG Foundation puts thousands of children in South Africa 's poorer communities through assorted sports programs, and the charity's ambassador and tournament founder Dan Nicholl said: "We had a wonderful event at Legend this year to get the Investec JAG Invitational series underway and this was the perfect way to follow it up.

"Having Chris take part made for a great addition to the day and we're looking forward to having him join us in South Africa next year."

Awaiting Evans in South Africa is Legend Golf & Safari Resort's unique Signature Course, which had one 18 of the world's top golfers design one hole each.

The resort also boasts the planet's most awe-inspiring golf hole - the Extreme 19th, played from the top of Hanglip Mountain - and a unique 10-hole Tribute course, paying homage to some of golf's most iconic holes; in addition to a golf academy, conference facilities; the Field of Legends sports complex; a wildlife and cultural centre; and more than 200 luxury resort suites, with a further 50 suites due for completion by the end of the year; and a new clubhouse and additional conference centre to be added in early 2012.
