Crown Golf clubs to take part in National Golf Club Challenge
July 15, 2011

Crown Golf is on course to raise over £30,000 - the year's largest single donation - to the National Golf Club Challenge (NGCC), the charity golf event which will raise money for The Seve Ballesteros Foundation, in support of Cancer Research UK through the nation's golf clubs.

The NGCC is a nationwide initiative which will see thousands of golfers at golf clubs throughout the UK simultaneously raise money for the charity, which funds research into brain cancer. Tragically, Seve lost his battle with cancer in May this year.

Matching last year's full house, all golf clubs owned by Crown Golf will take part in the Challenge on the weekend of 23 rd and 24 th July 2011, with each club expected to raise at least £1,000 for charity.

Last year, two Crown Golf-owned and operated clubs made it through to the National Golf Club Challenge final, and this year, hopes are also high that some Crown Golf club members will be at the 26 th September final at The Shire, London - the only Seve Ballesteros-designed golf course in the UK.

The clubs' fundraising total will be added to the total raised by clubs up and down the UK. The organisers of the event are hoping it will be the largest single golf charity event in the UK in 2011.

Stephen Lewis, CEO of Crown Golf, said: "Crown Golf is proud to be taking part in the National Golf Club Challenge again, and we hope to raise even more than the £24,000 that we reached last year.

"The Seve Ballesteros Foundation is a very worthy cause - we were all saddened by his tragic death earlier this year - and we hope that our contribution to the cause will make a real difference to people suffering from brain cancer."

Matthew Leighton from the National Golf Club Challenge commented: "We are very grateful to Crown Golf for galvanizing all their clubs to participate in this event. We appreciate every penny raised for the cause, and the goodwill of golf clubs such as those in the Crown Golf portfolio is what makes a big difference to the National Golf Club Challenge."
