Darren Clarke to receive £2m bonus from Dunlop
July 21, 2011

Dunlop Golf ambassador Darren Clarke has picked up a substantial £2million bonus from Dunlop , his long-term clothing sponsor, following on from his stunning win at the 2011 Open yesterday.  Clarke claimed his first major title at Royal St George's by seeing off the challenges of Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson in sensational fashion.

Clarke, who moves up to 30 th  in the world following his win, hit a final round of 70 - and eventually won by a margin of 3 shots.  He was playing in his 20th Open Championship and is the first winner from the UK since Paul Lawrie, who won it in 1999, and becomes only the second Northern Irishman to win the Open following on from Fred Daly in 1947.

Throughout the tournament Clarke was wearing Dunlop Collection clothing - which stood up to the test during what were sometimes extreme weather conditions at Sandwich - allowing him to keep dry and focus solely on his golf.

Dunlop will officially congratulate him today at a special ceremony at Lillywhite's store, London where he will also receive his bonus cheque for £2 million.

Sunny Singh, Head of Sports Marketing for Dunlop comments: " Our long standing sponsorship deal with Darren Clarke is one we are very proud of and we are delighted that Darren, one of the world's most popular golfers, has won his first major title! Our congratulations go out to Darren and his entire team ."
