Steve Harmison latest De Vere Club member
May 10, 2011

The De Vere Club, the UK's fastest growing golf club, has welcomed international cricketer Steve Harmison as a member following a presentation at De Vere Slaley Hall. The Durham bowler was presented with his membership pack which also marks a successful first year for the revolutionary golf club. Following its launch in March 2010 the flexible points based scheme has seen over 5000 members join, and continues to grow. Offering golfers all of the benefits of a 'normal' golf club membership, the De Vere Club gives members access to 16 courses at 11 venues across the UK including the luxury Carrick on Loch Lomond and European Tour venues, Wychwood Park and Slaley Hall.

Keith Pickard, Director of Golf and Leisure at De Vere Slaley Hall presented Steve Harmison with his membership pack, "We've had a fantastic first year with the De Vere Club, welcoming golfers from across the North-East who can see the benefits of the clubs flexibility. The option of playing at De Vere venues across the UK makes the De Vere Club a perfect match for Steve, and I'm sure he'll enjoy playing at different courses across the country when he's away with Durham. He'll be able to play in club competitions and can also use his membership points to take his team-mates out to play, so he'll be able to make full use of the flexibility."

Having received support from the Golf Foundation and PGA at its launch, the De Vere Club has exceeded initial expectations and bucked the trend in golf club membership during a difficult period. Appealing to a wide range of golfers, and at just £295 for 12 months membership, the De Vere Club has welcomed more members in the last 12 months than any other golf club in the UK.

"We have been delighted with the response to the De Vere Club since its launch just over 12 months ago," commented Daniel Hodson, Director of Golf & Leisure for De Vere. "We're fortunate that we have so many quality facilities across the UK that we can offer golfers access to, from The Carrick on Loch Lomond to Carden Park near Chester and Oulton Hall in Leeds. It's great to know that we are meeting the needs of the modern golfer, who travels a lot or wants the flexibility to play when and where they like, which was exactly what we aimed to do at the outset."

De Vere has invested significantly in recent years to present beautifully manicured Championship golf courses whilst also developing top class facilities and supporting the game across a variety of levels, from tour professionals to grass roots. The De Vere Club matches the needs of an array of golfers from the middle-aged golfer who wants to get their family involved in the game, to the twenty-something transient golfer who moves around the country for both business and social activities, and continues De Vere's dedication to meeting the needs of the modern golfer.
