Senior Scottish Open returning to Fairmont St Andrews
May 16, 2011

While the Open may have moved to Kent , the cream of golf will still be returning to the game's spiritual home this summer when Fairmont St Andrews welcomes Europe 's elite seniors.

The five-star resort will once more be hosting the Cleveland Golf/Srixon Scottish Senior Open, from August 19-21, in what is set to be the home of golf's biggest event of 2011.

It is the competition's 19th outing and the third successive occasion it will have been played on Fairmont St Andrews' Torrance course. And given the event's history and the venue's popularity with competitors, organisers are confident of attracting a strong field.

Barry Lane headed a field full of former Ryder Cup players last year as he claimed his inaugural European Seniors Tour victory and his defence of the title is set be hotly contested again with local favourite Sam Torrance among those expected to appear on the course he designed.

Garrett Turta, Fairmont St Andrews general manager, said: "Fairmont St Andrews once again is proud to host The Cleveland Golf/Srixon Scottish Senior Open and we're looking forward to welcoming back some legendary names of European golf.

"The significant improvements we've made to the Torrance Course put it among the best in the country. We have a fantastic course and are very popular with the players so I know we'll attract a great line-up to the home of golf in August and really give the crowds something to cheer about."

The event is once again being supported by EventScotland, the national events agency. Chief operating officer Paul Bush OBE commented: "The Cleveland Golf/Srixon Scottish Senior Open has been on our portfolio of events since we were established back in 2003 so we have been part of its growth over the years.

"Fairmont St Andrews provides a wonderful setting to showcase Scotland as 'The Home of Golf' to the many visitors attending or those watching the coverage around the world."

The Cleveland Golf/Srixon Scottish Senior Open is the latest in a long line of prestigious events to be held at Fairmont St Andrews, including final qualifying for the Open Championship.

The five-star resort boasts two first-class courses, The Torrance and The Kittocks, set in a 520-acre cliff-top estate with stunning views of both St Andrews Bay and the historic town.

Both layouts benefited from a recent £17m redevelopment which saw extensive work and improvements carried out across the resort which also boasts a five-star hotel and luxurious spa complex among its facilities.

Fairmont St Andrews is currently offering guests the opportunity to take advantage of unlimited golf on its two courses with the 'Golf, Golf and More Golf' package.

Golfers can enjoy two nights' five-star bed-and-breakfast accommodation with three days unlimited use of The Torrance and The Kittocks courses from just £349 per person.

The promotion also includes free buggies on The Kittocks and complimentary use of the driving range with unlimited balls.
