Free lessons on offer in Northumberland
June 15, 2011

Nearly 200 would-be golfers signed up for the first round of free lessons, with clubs across the county putting on extra sessions to cope with demand.

Now clubs are backing the second stage of a campaign aimed at helping both absolute beginners and former golfers who want to get back into the sport.

Get into Golf is a project that offers high quality coaching - all for FREE - and 12 clubs have signed up to host summer coaching courses.

And there is no need to make an immediate investment in golf equipment.

The scheme - which is aimed at the 16 plus age bracket - is organised by the Northumberland Golf Partnership and offers

SIX coaching sessions with a qualified PGA professional. These will cover all aspects of the game from basic swing, pitching, putting and bunker play.

- All equipment will be provided

- Venues across Northumberland, which means no-one should have far to travel to take advantage of the scheme.

Lisa Ferrie, the Northumberland partnership's County Development Officer, said: "This is an ideal chance to try golf, meet people and get fit - and all for free!

"The Get into Golf programme in the spring proved to be a great success. Now we hope the summer dates will attract another round of newcomers.

"This programme is open to everyone over the age of 16 who is not a member of a golf club or who did not take part in the spring events.

"Our aim is to get people who used to play golf back playing and also to get new people trying golf for the first time."

Anyone interested is asked to book their sessions direct with the club they want to attend.

New clubs taking part include Alnmouth-Foxton GC, Bedlington GC, Longhirst GC and Percy Wood GC.
