New golf scheme for North East England
April 15, 2011

Clubs across the north east are backing a major new drive to open up the game of golf for newcomers.

Two dozen clubs have signed up to support the Get Into Golf initiative which offers anyone interested in taking up the sport the fantastic opportunity to take part in six FREE lessons with a qualified golf professional.

It is the biggest project launched in the region to provide an easy and accessible route into the sport for beginners.

And there is no need to make an immediate investment in golf equipment.

The Get into Golf scheme - which is aimed at the 16 plus age bracket - is being organised by the Northumberland and Durham county golf partnerships and offers

-SIX coaching sessions with a qualified PGA professional. These will cover all aspects of the game from basic swing, pitching, putting and bunker play.

-All equipment will be provided

-Venues across the north east, which means no-one should have far to travel to take advantage of the scheme.

Regional development officer Jason Budd said: "It has never been easier to get into golf thanks to schemes like this - and never too late to take up the sport.

"This project is aimed at those who are over the age of 16 and gives people the chance to sample both the game and the atmosphere at the clubs taking part - without having to spend a penny.

"The lessons will provide a fun and structured introduction to the game, so no matter what age you are it is never too late to take up golf.

"As well as the sporting challenge of playing the game, it is a great way of meeting new people, enjoying a healthy lifestyle out in the fresh air and a thriving social scene, especially if you go on to become a member of a golf club."

Anyone interested is asked to book their sessions direct with the club they want to attend.
