New business golf scheme in Cumbria
September 27, 2011

Businesses across Cumbria are being urged to help tee up a healthier lifestyle for their employees.

As part of the county-wide drive to introduce more people to golf, a new scheme has been launched which highlights the health benefits of the sport.

Workers can now take advantage of six free lessons with a PGA professional at nine clubs across Cumbria as part of the Get into Golf campaign.

The sessions are open to those over the age of 16, ranging from absolute beginners or people who are looking to return to the sport.

Says Jane Robinson, county development officer for the Cumbria County Golf Partnership: "Playing golf can help contribute to a healthier lifestyle. There are the obvious benefits of taking exercise out in the fresh air on a regular basis, as well as the social side to the sport, too.

"A healthier workforce is a more productive one while if a group from one workplace gets involved in the golf lessons it can help build positive bonds between colleagues.

"The lessons will be a fun way to enjoy some time together away from the place of work.

"The great thing is that golf can be played across a wide range of ages - from those in their first job as a teenager to those approaching retirement age who are looking for a new hobby.

"The lessons are suitable for anyone who is new to the game, has wanted to give golf a go or who has perhaps been a member of a club in the past, but would now like to return to the sport."

Anyone interested is asked to contact the venue of their choice directly for further details.
