Two's company in Northamptonshire
August 9, 2011

Two's company when it comes to a new drive to encourage more people in Northamptonshire to take up golf.

A major campaign is being launched to offer golf lessons to couples - whether they be husband and wife, partners, family relations or just friends.

Ladies only courses will also be available.

The project is being organised by the Northamptonshire County Golf Partnership and will be held at four golf clubs across the region.

"This is a great opportunity for people who want to try playing golf to come along and give it a go with their partner, family member or friend," said David Davis, County Development Officer for the partnership. "It's nice to try something new in the company of someone you know.

"The sessions for couples or the ladies only courses will appeal to anyone who has been interested in trying golf, but may have been reluctant to approach a club on their own.

"You will be in a group of like-minded people all starting out together. Golf is a great sport for a healthy lifestyle, but it is also one where new friends can be made and with an enjoyable social life on and off the course."

On offer is four one-hour group coaching sessions with a qualified PGA professional plus an individual 30 minute lesson. Equipment is provided. Anyone interested is asked to register for the scheme directly with the club that suits them best, with a £20 registration fee payable to the venue. The clubs involved will be offering further coaching opportunities and membership offers.

The scheme is aimed at people aged 16 and over who are interested in golf, but are not yet members of a club.
