Golfweather.com offers forecasts for golfers
March 17, 2011

Thinking of playing a round but don't fancy getting wet? Well, thanks to the incredible new website Golfweather.com, golfers can plan a game around accurate detailed seven-day weather forecasts for the exact locations of golf clubs in the UK and Ireland .

Unlike most other weather sites, which forecast using nearest airports and cities, Golfweather.com uses a bespoke algorithm to predict weather for the precise longitude and latitude location of every golf course in its database.

This means golfers can work out what to wear on the course if they're playing the next day, or even better, 'beat the weather' by organising a game in advance around the seven-day forecast and picking the venue for their round based entirely around the likely conditions.

The free to use service can also be used by societies and golf day organisers to build contingency plans for likely outbreaks of bad weather.

Golfweather.com was founded in 2009 by 5 handicap golfer, Moshe Adir, to provide an easy to use and reliable weather website that's focused 100% on golf.

Said Moshe: "After suffering a bad car accident I got back into golf and became a real fair-weather golfer. I'm not embarrassed to say I would spend hours on weather websites trying to work out where was best to play, to avoid the wind largely.

"No-one provided precise weather forecasting by exact golf club locations so I set about building our own forecasting system just for golfers.

"We gather raw weather data from renowned meteorological organisations and institutions, to provide longitude and latitude location based forecasts for each golf club to get an incredibly accurate picture of what the weather is going to be like there on a seven-day rolling forecast."

To get the accurate weather data, golfers simply search by course or county on Golfweather.com. They can choose to see a 7 Day Forecast Summary, which lists conditions, daily high and low temperatures, wind speed and direction, daily precipitation probability and totals and an overall playability rating.

Or they can select the 7 Day Detailed Forecast which gives additional humidity levels, shows precipitation probability and totals in shorter windows and charts the weather in three-hour cycles from 06:00am to 18:00pm.

Adds Moshe: "We've been overwhelmed by the popularity of the Golfweather.com. Golfers really like the way they can target specific golf clubs and see what the weather's going to be doing."

Golfers can look for course and weather data directly on Golfweather.com or access the data via two free widgets which it makes available to any golf website.

With the widgets, golf clubs can permanently display their current forecast on their own website free of charge, while larger sites such as travel businesses and golf related portals can offer a full course search facility.

Adds Moshe:"The name Golfweather.com says it all and I look forward to providing more golfers all over the world with an invaluable new golfing tool".
