Nominations open for IOG Industry Awards

Entries are now being accepted for this year's Institute of Groundsmanship (IOG) 2011 Industry Awards being held on December 1 at Bolton's Reebok Stadium.

Nominations can easily be made online ( www.iogawards.com ) for the categories of entry covering sport, grass roots, young people and the environment.

This year sees the introduction of a new Award - for the Best Professional Football Training Ground Team of the Year - and the Alex R Millar Award has been renamed as the Alex R Millar Professional Football Groundsman of the Year Award and now also incorporates the IOG Professional Football Groundsman of the Year.

Now in their third year, the IOG Awards are the only industry-wide annual awards that recognise the important contribution by groundscare staff to the sustainability of British sport and best-practice groundscare across a multitude of disciplines and technologies. The Awards acknowledge the high standards achieved by a wide range of volunteer and professional skills and facilities, from grass roots to professional stadia level.

The results will be announced Oscar-style at the Reebok, the home of Bolton Wanderers Football Club, on Thursday December 1, as part of the IOG's 2011 'Building Skills, Transforming Grounds' Sports Turf Conference.

The Award categories are:

[] The Groundsman's Groundsman of the Year.

[] Spectator Sports Ground of the Year - sponsored by the ECB, the Football Association, the Lawn Tennis Association, Rugby Football League and Sport England.

[] Independent Schools & Colleges Sports Ground of the Year.

[] Best Maintained Artificial Pitch of the Year - jointly sponsored by Charterhouse Turf Machinery and Kubota.

[] Best Professional Football Training Ground Team of the Year - jointly sponsored by AFT Trenchers and Cleveland Land Services.

[] Professional Sports Grounds Management Team of the Year - jointly sponsored by Campey Turf Care Systems and  Imants BV.

[] The Alex R Millar Professional Football Groundsman of the Year.  

[] Public Sector Sports Ground of the Year.

[] Grass Roots Sports Ground of the Year.

[] Volunteer Sports Grounds Management Team of the Year.

[] Volunteer Sports Groundsman of the Year - sponsored by Mark Harrod Ltd.

[] Most Promising Sports Turf Student of the Year.

[] Young Groundsman of the Year.

[] Environmental Project of the Year - sponsored by Ransomes Jacobsen.

[] Innovation in Grounds Maintenance - sponsored by Sanli UK.

[] Public Sector Outdoor Facility of the Year.

[] Lifetime Achievement Award - sponsored by Everris.

With industry-recognised judges, each category will be judged on criteria which will include available resources, budget control, maintenance and use of machinery, presentation and housekeeping standards, technical knowledge, scale of operations and frequency of use, health & safety management, record keeping, environmental issues, community involvement and training & education.
