Legend Golf & Safari wins a double double
September 30, 2011

Legend Golf & Safari Resort completed an impressive double double at the World Travel Awards as it successfully defended two titles at the prestigious event.

The five-star venue, based on the Big 5 Entabeni Safari Conservancy in the Waterberg area of Limpopo, was named both Africa's Leading Sports Resort and South Africa 's Leading Golf Resort for the second successive year.

Hailed as the Oscars of the travel industry, the World Travel Awards is the most influential and comprehensive awards programme for the travel sector.

Peet Cilliers, CEO of Legend Lodges, Hotels & Resorts, said: "As I said last year, it is a great honour that our vision and passion have been recognised by our peers in the global travel and tourism industry.

"The resort is proving to be a great success and increasingly popular with tour operators, conference and event organisers and travellers from around the world. And we continue to strive to deliver a truly 21st century experience in the heart of the African bush".

The world-class event saw global travel professionals acknowledge the unique attributes of the world-class resort, which includes the Signature Golf Course, the first layout designed by 18 of the world's finest golfers; a unique 10-hole Tribute course, paying homage to some of golf's most iconic holes; and a golf academy, in addition to conference facilities; the Field of Legends sports complex; a wildlife and cultural centre; and a host of other amenities and activities.

Legend Golf & Safari Resort is also home to the planet's most extreme golf hole: the Extreme 19th, played from the top of Hanglip Mountain .

It sprang to global prominence when more than three million people across the world experienced the longest and highest par-three in the world thanks to a short video of former Open champion Padraig Harrington in a play-off against French tour star Raphael Jacquelin.

Since then hundreds of people have enjoyed the adrenaline rush of the unique golfing experience.

The resort boasts more than 200 luxury resort suites, with 50 more due for completion by the end of the year, and a new clubhouse and additional conference centre the highlights of early 2012.
