Legendary finish for Vodacom Origins Series
October 4, 2011

The final of the Sunshine Tour's Vodacom Origins Series is underway at Legend Golf & Safari Resort and a strong field has taken to the fairways of the world's only 18-hole Signature Course.

Jean Hugo is bidding to become only the third person to win three times on the series in a season, while all but one of this year's other series event winners are competing, including Chris Swanepoel, Darren Fichardt, and Attie Schwartzel, the younger brother of Masters champion Charl, is also in the line up.

During the three-round contest the players will pit their wits against some of the greatest golfers on the planet as they take on holes designed by world-number-one Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia, Reteif Goosen and Jim Furyk among others.

The resort's Signature Course boasts 18 different designers, one for each hole, all of which come from the upper echelon of professional golfers.

It is also the longest par-72 golf course in the world, although the variable tee options mean the Vodacom Origins competitors will play roughly 7,375 yards each day.

Despite some shortening the opening five holes still represent a massive challenge as the Legend Golf & Safari's director of golf, David Riddle explained:  "We call that 'The Stretch'. It's the toughest opening five holes of any course in the world.

"If you step on to the sixth tee box at level par, then you feel like a king and are ready to tackle the rest of the course. I think a winning score of around seven or eight under would be a good effort this week.

"We're delighted to host the culmination of the Vodacom Origins Series and I know we have a course worthy of such a prestigious event."

Legend Golf & Safari Resort also boasts the planet's most awe-inspiring golf hole: the Extreme 19th, played from the top of Hanglip Mountain and a unique 10-hole Tribute course, paying homage to some of golf's most iconic holes; in addition to a golf academy, conference facilities; the Field of Legends sports complex; a wildlife and cultural centre; and more than 200 luxury resort suites, with a further 50 suites due for completion by the end of the year, and a new clubhouse and additional conference centre to be added in early 2012.
