First Midlands golf week announced
June 22, 2011

Golf clubs from across the Midlands are coming together to launch the region's first ever Golf Week.

Following hot on the heels of this year's Open Championship at Royal St George's, the festival of golf will offer anyone inspired by the sight of Lee Westwood and co battling it out for the famous Claret Jug the perfect opportunity to give the sport a try.

The county's first golf festival tees off as the Open comes to its dramatic conclusion on July 18.

Clubs throughout the region are backing a new drive to encourage more people to take up golf with a host of events and offers, like free taster golf sessions.

More than 50 clubs have signed up to the support the week-long festival which runs from July 18-24.

Full details of what is on offer at each club will be found by visiting www.midlandsgolfweek.co.uk

The county golf partnerships will be supporting initiatives and events run by clubs and facilities such as:

  • FREE Taster sessions for beginners to give golf a go
  • FREE coaching for all levels
  • Discounted green fees
  • FREE access to certain courses

Regional development officer Sharon Heeley said: "The Midlands Golf Week is an exciting new venture involving a host of clubs across the region in showcasing what golf has to offer.

"Anyone interested in getting involved in golf for the first time or who is interested in coming back to the sport can use the new website - www.midlandsgolfweek.co.uk - to find the event that best suits them.

"Golf is the only sport that can be competitive at all ages and by all abilities and has health benefits as well as the sporting and social enjoyment. A round of golf equates to 12,000 steps or a 45 minute workout, improves flexibility, strength and overall fitness."

Further details of what is on offer and where will be released over the coming weeks.
