Byrd & Oosthuizen make early Ranking moves
January 10, 2011

Jonathan Byrd became the first champion of 2011 on the PGA Tour, defeating Robert Garrigus on the second extra hole at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Hawaii after the pair finished top of the leaderboard on 24 under for the tournament, where they were almost joined by Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell, who equalled the course record with a stunning round of 62. Byrd jumps 63 positions in the Official World Golf Ranking to 58th while Garrigus is now World Number 81.

The Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen won a three-man play-off to clinch the Africa Open title in East London after England's Chris Wood and Spain's Manuel Quiros could only manage pars after the trio had finished regulation play tied on 18 under par. Oosthuizen holed from 15 feet for birdie on the first extra hole, the par-four 18th, to clinch a third European Tour win and climb to World Number 19, up two spots.
