Steve Stricker climbs to world no. 4
June 6, 2011

Steve Stricker won the Memorial tournament at Muirfield Village by a single shot with a final round 68 from Matt Kuchar and Brandt Jobe, who each closed with 65 to tie for second. Stricker, who led by four shots at the turn, made a spectacular sand save behind the 12th green before a 2 hour weather delay. A bogey of 15 was followed by two more superb sand saves on 16 and 17, then a bogey on 18 was enough for his one stroke victory. The 44-year-old Stricker moves to World Number 4, up 4 places, with this 10th career victory, his seventh since he turned 40. Luke Donald tied for 8th with a closing 68, achieving his 10th consecutive top 10 around the world, and consolidates his world no. 1 position, Matt Kuchar climbs one to 6th, and Dustin Johnson, 4th at the Memorial, climbs 5 into the top 10 at 9th.

Swede Alex Noren won the SAAB Wales Open, his second European Tour title, at The Celtic Manor Resort. Noren's victory at The Ryder Cup venue came by two strokes from Dane Anders Hansen and Frenchman Grégory Bourdy after a closing 70 containing just two birdies and one mistake at the driveable par 4 15th where he found a hazard. Noren climbs to World Number 80, an improvement of 47 positions.
