Scottish 9 Hole Open to be played in Cairngorms
April 14, 2011

The inaugural Scottish Nine Hole Open will be played at Carrbridge Golf Club in the Cairngorms National Park on 5 July 2011.

In a break from tradition this Open Competition will be played over nine rather than eighteen holes.

The competition is officially recognised by the Scottish Golf Union and is an outstanding opportunity for those who do not quite make the cut for the main Scottish Open being played at Castle Stuart Golf Links, just 20 miles north, from 7 th to 10 th July.

John Walker, Club President at Carrbridge Golf Club says: "We are delighted to be hosting the very first Scottish Nine Hole Open at Carrbridge Golf Club this year. The world's golfing spotlight will be firmly on the Highlands this summer thanks to the Scottish Open at Castle Stuart, so there is no better time to be launching our own mini version. Players will be able to take in the stunning scenery whilst enjoy one of the best courses in the UK's largest National Park. We would urge all those coming up here for the Scottish Open to challenge themselves and be the first to play in our nine hold competition - we are sure it will be a lot of fun for all."

Carrbridge Golf Course enjoys different, but no less challenging features, to a Links Course. Streams, hilltop greens with surrounding heather and woodland test the most accurate of golfers.

Wildlife and scenery are an additional bonus. The majestic, snow-capped Cairngorms and Cromdale Hills provide a 180-degree panorama and a pine forest - the perfect habitat for deer and red squirrels - shelters the rear section of the course. Throughout spring and early summer the family of oystercatchers nesting on the second fairway seem undeterred, almost oblivious, to the constant traffic of golfers, their trolleys and the odd wayward ball.

Thanks to a dedicated green-keeping team the quality of the course is impressive and is regularly remarked upon by visitors and members. Check out the website for the history of the club and up to date information on the Open: www.carrbridgegolf.com and www.scottishnineholeopen.co.uk
